Attendance

At The Romsey School, we know that attending school regularly gives students the best chance of success. Good attendance helps students keep up with their learning, build positive friendships, achieve their potential in examinations, and take full advantage of the many opportunities available to them both inside and outside the classroom. In contrast, missing school regularly can make it more difficult for students to make progress, maintain confidence in their learning, and achieve the outcomes they are capable of.

We are committed to working closely with parents and carers to support excellent attendance. Where attendance concerns arise, we will always seek to understand the circumstances involved, identify any barriers to attendance, and work together to find appropriate solutions that help students attend school regularly and successfully.

The impact of poor attendance can build up quickly over time. Even a small reduction in attendance can result in a significant amount of missed learning, making it harder for students to keep pace with their peers. The table below illustrates how many school days and hours of learning are missed at different levels of attendance.

We offer a supportive, stepped approach to attendance - The Romsey School Attendance Roadmap

We understand that life can sometimes present challenges that may affect attendance. That's why we are here to support you and your child every step of the way. Whether it's through our dedicated pastoral team, after-school programs, or open communication with parents, we strive to address any obstacles that may hinder regular attendance.

Students who are too unwell to attend school should be reported as ill by their parents on the first day of absence before 08:45am should be reported using Arbor or by leaving a voicemail on our dedicated absence phone line 01794527019.

For more information and a step-by-step guide on using Arbor to manage absences and attendance, please click here.

To send evidence of medical/dental appointments, please email them to attendance@theromseyschool.org

In the event of problems relating to attendance, the progress leader and tutor will begin to work with both student and parent(s) to formalise an appropriate action plan. This may include praise and reward, work with one of Attendance Officer, an attendance support plan or working together with partner agencies.

The Romsey School does not support taking a holiday in term time.  Parents are strongly advised to avoid taking holidays during term time. If this is absolutely unavoidable, a leave of absence form must be completed (found at the bottom of this page). The completed form should be received at least two weeks before the period for which you are seeking authorisation.
