Pupil Premium

At The Romsey School, we are committed to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background or personal circumstances.

The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the Department for Education to help schools improve the educational outcomes of disadvantaged students and to reduce barriers to learning. Funding is provided for students who have been eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) at any point in the last six years, as well as for Looked After Children (LAC) and Previously Looked After Children (PLAC), including those who have been adopted from care or are subject to a Special Guardianship or Child Arrangements Order.

In addition, schools receive Service Pupil Premium funding to support students from service families.

Free School Meals

Recent national changes have expanded Free School Meal eligibility for some families receiving Universal Credit. While not all students entitled to Free School Meals attract the same level of additional funding, we remain committed to supporting all students who may face disadvantage and ensuring they can fully engage with school life and learning opportunities.

Targeted FSM

These are pupils whose families meet the original low-income threshold for FSM eligibility (annual net earned income of £7,400 or less). These pupils continue to attract Pupil Premium funding.

Focused FSM

These are pupils who become eligible for a free school meal through the wider Universal Credit expansion but may not meet the previous deprivation threshold. They receive a free meal entitlement but do not necessarily attract additional Pupil Premium funding in the same way as the targeted FSM cohort.

Looked After and Previously Looked After Children

Funding continues separately for:

  • Looked After Children (LAC), with funding allocated through the local authority's Virtual School Head.

  • Previously Looked After Children (PLAC), including pupils adopted from care or subject to Special Guardianship or Child Arrangements Orders. Schools receive Pupil Premium Plus directly for these pupils.
